Malaysia has reached the last stages of the contract review for 5G mobile services. By the end of 2022, about half of the country’s inhabited areas had implemented 5G network coverage.

Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that they will meet with the network’s owner, Digital Nasional Bhd., today.

According to Malaysia’s Communications and Multimedia Commission (DNB), only 87% of cellular towers are fiberized. This means that consumers will have 5G access, but it will be limited to 30-40 Mbps rather than the normal 100-200 Mbps.

The government will also revise and improve the previous government’s budget for this contract, which was presented before parliament.
