Ford India seeks a ‘non-negotiable’ severance package for employees

Giving a modern twist to the Ford India workers’ strike at the company’s Maraimalai Nagar manufacturing facility, the corporate has set a Monday night time deadline for workers to accept a ‘non-negotiable’ severance package deal.

It also warned of the possibility of criminal action against employees beginning June 14 and of an early closure of the unit before finishing final export quantity manufacturing.

For the previous 14 days, approximately 2,000 employees on the unit had gone on strike in search of a better package deal from the corporate.

The package deal announced includes an ex-gratia amount comparable to 87 days of final drawn gross wages (May 2022) and a hard and fast quantity Rs 50,000, each for each and every completed 12 months of carrier.

In addition, benefits such as a lump sum payment of Rs 2,40,000 and the continuation of current medical health insurance until March 2024 were introduced.

The next round of talks between the Union and the control will take place on June 14, the date on which the corporation intends to restart manufacturing.
