Ransomware gang Blackbyte stole personal information of 20,000 people

The San Francisco 49ers are sending out letters to confirm a data breach that has affected over 20,000 people.

Between February 6 and February 11, 2022, personal information of 20,930 people was accessed and/or stolen in the attack.

On February 12, the BlackByte gang claimed responsibility for the attack by leaking files allegedly stolen from the 49ers’ network.

Employees affected by the breach were notified of the breach in letters sent to them beginning Thursday. Blackbyte is well-known for selling gigabytes of data from previous victims.
