The Indian Army’s Northern Command announced on Monday that they had recovered the mortal remains of LNk (Late) Chander Shekhar, who had been missing since May 29, 1984.

The Indian Army posted a video of soldiers dressed entirely in white walking through a snow-covered mountain while holding onto a rope.

The Indian Army tweeted, “Mortal remains of LNk (Late) Chander Shekhar, who made the supreme sacrifice while being deployed for Operation #Meghdoot at Gyongla #Glacier in 1984; mortal remains will be handed over to the family shortly,”

The codename for the Indian Armed Forces’ operation to seize control of the Siachen Glacier in Kashmir, which precipitated the Siachen conflict, was Operation Meghdoots.

The operation, which preempted Pakistan’s upcoming Operation Ababeel (which had the same goal), was a success.
