It is a Grand Prix that has almost always been held in midsummer, with the exception of the first edition at Silverstone, which was held in October.

Silverstone hosts the British Touring Car Championship as well as the British Grand Prix. Brooklands Circuit in Surrey hosted two Grands Prix in 1926 and 1927.

Between 1955 and 1960, the Grand Prix was held at Aintree, near Liverpool.

Moto GP was first held at Silverstone between 1977 and 1986, and it has been held there again since 2010.
