We are not surprised by his candour, whether it was when he nominated Sajid or when he put things in context in front of his friend Sumbul.

It is clear that Shalin cares for his friend and takes the friendship seriously enough to let her know what’s going on around her and not be oblivious, which leads us to believe that not every close friendship is a relationship but simply two people who care about each other.
