Meta to pay $725 million to Cambridge Analytica lawsuit
Meta, Facebook’s parent company, has agreed to pay $725 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging that the network disclosed user data to other parties without their consent.
The payout represents the largest ever recovered in a data privacy class action. A Meta spokesman told that the company fully changed its privacy policy and implemented a rigorous privacy programme.
Following the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook renamed itself Meta to better represent its ambitions to become a dominant power in the Metaverse.
Facebook and the FTC negotiated a $5 billion settlement in 2019. Furthermore, the corporation agreed to pay $100 million to settle charges that it deceived investors.
