China condemns Nancy Pelosi’s arrival in Taiwan as “Extremely Dangerous”
China has condemned the United States’ actions in Taiwan as “extremely dangerous,” following the arrival of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on the island for a visit that has heightened tensions between the two superpowers.
The Chinese leadership has repeatedly warned Pelosi, a long-time Beijing critic, against visiting self-ruled Taiwan, which China claims as its own.
Pelosi’s visit to Taipei marks the first time in 25 years that a US House speaker has visited Taiwan.
China has warned the United States that if Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan goes ahead, it will face “dire consequences.”
“The United States. constantly distorts, obscures and hollows out the ‘One China’ principle,” Beijing’s foreign ministry said in a statement after Pelosi’s plane touched down in Taiwan.
