Australian telecoms company discloses data breach impacting the personal information of customers

Optus, an Australian telecommunications company, has disclosed a data breach affecting both former and current customers’ personal information.

With nearly 9.7 million subscribers, Optus is Australia’s second largest wireless services provider.

Unknown attackers gained access to information such as names, birth dates, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses, and ID document numbers after breaching its systems.

Following the cyberattack, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) issued a warning to Optus customers about potential fraud attempts.
