Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury apologises to President Droupadi Murmu for his “Rashtrapatni” remark
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Congress MP, apologised to President Droupadi Murmu on Friday for his “Rashtrapatni” remark, which drew strong criticism from the ruling BJP on Thursday.
In a video clip, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury can be heard referring to President Droupadi Murmu as “Rashtrapatni.”
The BJP, led by Smriti Irani and Nirmala Sitharaman, protested vehemently and demanded an apology from both Chowdury and Congress President Sonia Gandhi.
“I am writing to express my regret for having mistakenly used an incorrect word to describe the position you hold,” he wrote in a letter to the President.
