The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to reach new heights in the coming days, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) anticipates an intense bidding war between some of the world’s largest broadcasting and digital conglomerates for the IPL media rights for the 2023-27 cycle.

The BCCI anticipates a large cash infusion as the media rights to the world’s largest T20 league are up for grabs in an ongoing e-auction.

After the conclusion of the IPL media rights e-auction, which began on Sunday, BCCI secretary Jay Shah is optimistic about the IPL growing into a bigger brand and leapfrogging the likes of the English Premier League (EPL) and Major League Baseball (MLB) to become the world’s second-most lucrative sporting league, trailing only the National Football League (NFL).

In terms of “per match broadcasting fees,” the IPL currently ranks fourth in the world, trailing the NFL, EPL, and Major League Baseball. The BCCI, on the other hand, expects the cash-rich T20 league to jump to second place following the IPL media rights auction for the 2023-27 cycle.

Amazon has purchased the media rights to the Indian Premier League. However, BCCI remains optimistic about the media rights and believes the bidding war will exceed $7 billion.

The media rights are divided into four packages: A, B, C, and D. Package C is a collection of special matches, whereas Package D includes overseas TV and digital rights.
