Vinesh came from a low-income family and was raised by a single parent after her father died when she was young.

She claims she was never pressured to fit into any mould when it came to her sports career.

Vinesh Phogat qualified for the Rio Olympics after defeating Polish wrestler Iwona Matkowska, but she was eliminated in the quarterfinals by China’s Sun Yanan due to a dangerous anterior cruciate ligament tear in her knee.
