The Urban Development Department has issued guidelines to all municipal bodies on where to place advertisements in urban areas.

It has been suggested that illegal hoardings disguised as advertisements be removed immediately.

The government had received numerous complaints that several advertising agencies were collectively stealing lakhs of rupees from the state exchequer each month through illegal advertisements.

All bodies have been directed by the urban development department to conduct monthly drives to remove illegal advertisements and to send action taken reports every 15 days.

Places in urban areas where hoardings and banners can be erected while still being accessible to traffic and safe for the general public must be identified.
