Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, stated on Sunday that India will become a net exporter of clean hydrogen energy and will provide global leadership in the hydrogen space.

In Pune, the minister spoke at the launch of an indigenously developed hydrogen fuel cell bus developed by KPIT-CSIR.

“India can make the transition from being a net importer of fossil energy to a net exporter of clean hydrogen energy,” he said.

Green hydrogen enables significant decarbonization of difficult-to-abate emissions from the refining, fertiliser, steel, cement, and heavy commercial transportation sectors.

A single diesel bus travelling long distances emits 100 tonnes of CO2 per year, and India has over a million of them.
