Twitter experiences a major global outage

According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, Twitter Inc was down for thousands of users worldwide on Thursday, the company’s first such outage since February.

According to the website, there were over 50,000 incidents of people reporting problems with Twitter in the United States. Other countries, including the United Kingdom, Mexico, Brazil, and Italy, have also reported problems.

Users were unable to access the site on desktop and mobile devices.

The company’s status dashboard indicated that all systems were operational, but users could not access their tweets. It is not clear what caused the outage.

Twitter shares were down slightly before the bell.

Twitter problems began around 1pm UK time, according to independent outage monitor Down Detector.

Down Detector UK received around 98,000 reports of Twitter being down, while downdetector.com received over 50,000 reports of Twitter being down.
