Netflix has quietly accelerated pre-production on The Witcher season 3.

This means that the show’s crew has been working hard to prepare the sets, scout locations, and cast new key roles for the third season.

Netflix has not yet revealed the release date, but based on previous seasons’ production schedules, an educated guess can be made.

The third season of The Witcher will be an adaptation of Time of Contempt, the second proper novel in the Witcher Saga.

Lauren Hissrich, showrunner, has stated that this is their final week in the writer’s room and that they are nearing the end of the scripting phase.

Season 3 will most likely skip The Witcher’s usual December release date in favour of a Summer 2023 release.

Season 3 will also go into greater detail about Ciri’s father, Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard.

Fans will have to “be patient,” according to the showrunner, to find out if the “Dear Friend” letter from season 2 has been replaced with one from the books.

Another major faction explored in season two is the elves.

If Season 3 follows the books, the elves will form a guerilla army known as the Scoia’tael (or Squirrels).

The Squirrels were supposed to be teased in the season two finale, but those plans were scrapped.

Some of the mystery will be resolved in the prequel series Blood Origin, which is set to be released this year.
