Tesla warns owners in the Owner’s Manual that even with Cabin Over Heat Protection enabled, their vehicles can still become dangerously hot.
Cabin Overheat Protection can be activated for 12 hours after passengers have exited the vehicle or until the battery reaches 20% charge.
When activated, the feature can function even when there is no A/C, in which case only the fan operates.
In Austin/San Antonio, Texas, a heat advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. CDT on July 12.
