Rupee gains 5 paise to close at 79.87 against US dollar

On Friday, the rupee rose 5 paise to close at 79.86 (provisional) against the US dollar, boosted by foreign fund inflows and a positive trend in domestic equities.

However, higher crude prices in international markets limited the rupee’s gains, according to forex dealers.

The rupee strengthened in response to positive domestic equity markets and FII inflows, but gains were limited by a strong US dollar and higher crude oil prices.

During the session, the local currency experienced intra-day highs and lows against the US dollar.

The BSE Sensex closed 59.15 points, or 0.10 percent, higher at 58,833.87 points, while the NSE Nifty advanced 36.45 points, or 0.21 percent, to 17,558.90.
