He has questioned why car manufacturers provide six airbags on export versions of vehicles while the same vehicles sold in India only have four.

Each additional airbag installed in a car costs the automaker only Rs. 900, and a law mandating six airbags in cars will go into effect soon.

According to the transport minister, a notification regarding the penalization of car passengers who do not wear rear seat belts will be issued within the next three days.

Seat belt alarms are currently standard for front passengers in all cars sold in India.
