Malware developers are already adjusting their strategies to avoid Google’s new ‘Restricted settings’ security feature introduced in Android 13.

On Android, Accessibility Services is a widely abused disability assistance system that allows apps to perform swipes and taps, as well as go back or return to the home screen.

ThreatFabric researchers were able to create a proof-of-concept dropper that easily circumvented this new security feature.

BugDrop is still in development by a group of malware authors and operators known as ‘Hakoden,’ who are also behind the Gymdrop dropper and the Xenomorph Android banking trojan.

BugDrop will be used in Xenomorph campaigns to enable on-device credential theft and fraud behaviour on the most recent Android devices.
