Colombian soccer supporters were detained in Argentina during a match

At least 17 supporters of Colombian soccer club Deportivo Cali were detained by police hours before their team’s match against Boca Juniors in the Copa Liberatores group round in Buenos Aires on Thursday.

According to the Ministry of Security, the supporters were arrested on suspicion of carrying out attacks and resisting authority, as well as carrying blades.

The arrests took occurred in a park south of the city, just a few streets from the La Bombonera stadium, where the match that would determine the continental competition’s qualification for the round of 16 was scheduled to take place.

Several knives, razors, and bottles of alcohol were seized, according to police.

Several Deportivo Cali supporters had fought Racing Club supporters near a railway station in a suburb south of the capital the day before.
