Astronomers attempts to discover how the first galaxies formed

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) observes the universe in infrared light, allowing astronomers to observe distant stars and galaxies whose light is normally obscured by cosmic dust.

Thousands of galaxies can be seen in the image, some of which formed less than a billion years after the Big Bang.

JWST was created to piece together the elements that made up the first galaxies in order to understand their evolution.

Astronomers used the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) to map galaxies from 13.1 billion years ago.

According to one theory, early galaxies formed from massive clouds of gas and dust that collapsed in on themselves.

According to another theory, smaller amounts of gas, dust, and atoms merged to form larger galaxies.

Astronomers can learn about the evolution of the interstellar medium by comparing galaxies.
